Teaching Observation Feedback
I had my feedback session with Liz at 5PM. I am delighted ashe thought the session was well structured and clear. She acknowledged I control the subject very well (and that's why I chose this particular session for observation).
However, she suggested I should give handouts of the presentation to the students as it is so data based. It's a good point and Eva asked me for them just after the session so I did a batch for everyone. I also need to give them some sort of comfort break. Running a 2 1/2 hour session with no intermission could be a health and safety hazard. Also, it was evident that my Keynote presentation was required to set some parameters, but the students really came to life when I gave them something to do in groups. I will explore that for other dry sessions like project management. Practical exercises, I need to remind that to myself and I tend to take the traditional teacher mode sometimes. Can't imagine why, because I wasn't taught in that way at University. I suppose it might be the content of the sessions I run. I hope Malcolm allows me to run methodologies or something more discursive and less data based.
We also talked about my action research epiphany. Problem based learning is such a groundbreaking concept for me (and could help me break my obsessive teacher control)!
