New job
The Glasgow School of Art offered me the 0.6 Research Degrees Coordinator job, which I was delighted to accept. I will start on the week beginning 18 July.
Apart from the personal challenge (moving up to Scotland while doing a PhD in London) this new role will also provide me with some pedagogical challenges. The Director of Research and Postgraduate Studies already told me what these will be, at least for the first few months:
- Creating a new Research Degrees Training Programme from scratch
- Aligning the School's Research Degree Progarmmes with the QAA Code of Practice
- Validating an MRes course
They are all very relevant to what I want to do but the last one, the MRes, interests me in particular. This course, although feeding from some of the elements of the research degrees training programme, it is distinctly another level, a complitely different kind of structure, which will include assessment and learning outcomes. My experience tutoring Beatty, the Research Preparation MA student will now prove invaluable in order to face this new challenge with some prior knowledge.
